As our last day in Oregon approached, we decided we did not want to leave without a proper visit to Mt. Hood. As I mentioned in a previous post, the day that we had planned to go there, we couldn't see much or stay for too long because of the smoke and the poor air quality in that area. So, for our last day we decided to go back. I am glad to report that, this time, we had a sunny day with blue skies and the only haze in the sky was coming from the clouds =D
Como nosso último dia em Oregon estava se aproximando, decidimos que não iríamos sair sem uma visita "de verdade" ao Mt. Hood. Como mencionei em um post anterior, o dia em que nós tínhamos planejado para ir lá, não dava pra ver muito ou ficar por muito tempo por causa da fumaça e da baixa qualidade do ar na área. Portanto, para o nosso último dia, decidimos voltar. Estou feliz de informar que, desta vez, tivemos um dia ensolarado com céu azul e a único neblina no céu estava vindo das nuvens = D
When we arrived, we hiked up a short trail to get a better view of the mountain. And I thought the view from the parking lot was pretty good already. Although most of the snow had melted due to Oregon's unusually warm summer this year, we could still get a clear view of the glaciers at the top.
Quando chegamos, nós subimos uma trilha curta para obter uma visão melhor da montanha. E eu que pensei que a vista do estacionamento ja era boa o bastante. Embora a maior parte da neve havia derretido devido ao verão excepcionalmente quente do Oregon neste ano, ainda tivemos uma visão clara das geleiras no topo.
After admiring the view and walked around a little bit, we went exploring and found that we could ride one of the ski lifts up closer to the mountain. We jumped at the opportunity and took the kids on, mine and theirs, first lift experience =D
Depois de admirar a vista e caminhar um pouco, fomos explorar e descobrimos que poderíamos subir em um dos teleféricos ate mais perto da montanha. Nós aproveitamos a oportunidade e levamos as crianças na nossa primeira experiência em um teleférico = D
I confess I was a bit scared of sitting on a chair so high above the ground with two toddlers and only a metal bar to hold us in place but, it was actually an easy ride and the kids were just mesmerized by the experience.
Confesso que fiquei um pouco assustada de ficar sentada em uma cadeira tão alta acima do chão com duas crianças e apenas uma barra de metal para nos manter no lugar, mas, na verdade, foi um passeio fácil e as crianças ficaram encantadas com a experiência.
After we got down from the lift, we drove down a little ways to Trillium Lake for a picnic. We stopped at a nice wooded area that had picnic tables right by the lake. We had a beautiful view of the Lake with Mt. Hood in the background. During our picnic, there were lots of birds hanging out nearby as well as, the not so friendly, yellow jackets. Needless to say, we finished our lunch fast.
Depois que voltamos, dirigimos um pouco ate chegar no Trillium Lake para um piquenique. Nós paramos em uma bela área arborizada que tinha mesas de piquenique ao lado do lago. Tivemos uma bela vista do lago com Mt. Hood ao fundo. Durante o nosso piquenique, haviam muitos pássaros nas proximidades, bem como, as não tão amigáveis, vespas. Nem preciso de dizer que nós terminamos nosso almoço rápidinho.
The kids enjoyed dipping their feet in the water and feeding the ducks on the lake. The water was a bit cool but not as cold as the water on the coast. Z2 slipped off a rock and into the water once but we brought extra clothes so all was well.
As crianças gostaram de colocar os pés na água e alimentar os patos no lago. A água estava um pouco fria, mas não tão fria quanto a água da praia. Z2 escorregou numa pedra e caiu na água uma vez, mas nós trouxemos roupas extras então tudo acabou bem.
It has been more than a month since we got back from the Pacific Northwest and I still find myself thinking about it often. The natural beauty all around, the taste of adventure always in the air... In the end, I think what this trip really did for me was rekindle a passion for adventure and exploration, deeper appreciation for natural beauty, as well as ignite a burning desire to spend more time with my family outdoors. At a time when screens and gadgets compete for our attention every waking moment, I hope my children will learn to value time spent with people more than things, and to instill in them a love for nature. Most of all, that by taking time to contemplate the wonders all around them, that they will turn in awe and gratitude to the One who created it all for them.
Ja fazem mais de um mês desde que voltamos do Noroeste do Pacífico e eu ainda me pego pensando no lugar varias vezes. A beleza natural ao redor, o sabor da aventura sempre no ar... No final, eu acho que o que esta viagem realmente fez para mim foi reacender a paixão pela aventura e exploração, apreciação mais profunda para a beleza natural, bem como um ardente desejo de passar mais tempo com minha família ao ar livre. Numa epoca em que as telas e gadgets competem pela nossa atenção a todo momento, espero que meus filhos vão aprender a valorizar o tempo gasto com as pessoas mais do que com coisas, e para incutir-lhes o gosto pela natureza. Acima de tudo, que, ao tomar tempo para contemplar as maravilhas ao redor deles, que eles vão se encham de admiração e gratidão a Aquele que criou tudo para eles.
