Our second adventure in Oregon was a day trip to the Columbia River Gorge. We started by driving to the Crown Point Vista House where we could take in the beautiful views up and down the Gorge from over 700 feet above the Columbia River.
Nossa segunda aventura em Oregon foi uma curta viajem de um dia para o Columbia River Gorge. Nos comecamos o dia dirigindo para um lugar chamado Crown Point Vista House, aonde pudemos admirar a vista do Gorge de mais de 200 metros acima do Rio Columbia.

The view from the Vista House felt almost like I was staring into a painting where everything had been perfectly placed all the way into the horizon. River, forests, mountains, sky, and clouds...just breathtaking. Staring into the infinitude of beauty in front of me, sure made me feel small and full of wonder. As I mentioned before, I really don't think our pictures do any justice to the reality.
A vista la de cima dava a impressão que eu estivesse olhando para uma pintura em que tudo tinha sido perfeitamente colocado até o horizonte. rio, florestas, montanhas, céu e nuvens... de tirar o fôlego. Olhar para a infinitude de beleza na minha frente, com certeza me fez sentir bem pequena e cheia de admiração. Como mencionei antes, eu realmente não acho que nossas fotos fazem justiça à realidade.

I didn't think I could be any more amazed with this place, then we drove down into the Gorge and...
Quando eu pensei que não poderia admirar mais este lugar, agente dirigiu em direção ao Gorge e...
There were several waterfalls and beautiful hiking trails everywhere! Some of the waterfalls were right next to the road, and others you could park nearby and hike to them. There were short hikes and longer ones, you could pick. The options seemed endless!
Haviam várias cachoeiras e trilhas lindíssimas por toda parte! Algumas das cachoeiras ficavam bem ao lado da estrada e os outras, nos tinhamos que estacionar nas proximidades e caminhar para encontra-las. Existiam varias opções de trilhas, longas ou curtas, você podia escolher. As opções parecia não ter fim!
Although the water was very cold, the Zs still had a blast getting their feet wet and playing with the rocks and leaves in the rocky brooks along the way.
Mesmo com a agua gelada, os Zs ainda amaram colocar os pés na agua e brincar com as pedrinhas e as folhas nos córregos rochosos pelo caminho.
Even though it is always nice to see the falls on the side of the road, I seem to have enjoyed even more the ones we found at the end of a hike (even if they were short ones).
Embora seja sempre bom ver as cachoeiras que ficam ao lado da estrada, eu gostei ainda mais das que encontramos no final das trilhas (mesmo se fossem curtas).
Both kiddos really enjoyed the walks and we were especially impressed with Z1, who did most of the walking on his own. For Z2, the carrier backpack was definitely useful during our hikes. Special thanks to our great hosts for arranging one for us to use =D
Ambas as crianças realmente gostaram muito das trilhas e ficamos especialmente impressionados com Z1, que andou sozinho a maior parte do tempo. Para Z2, a mochila de carregar foi definitivamente útil durante nossas caminhadas. Agradecimentos especiais aos nossos grandes anfitriões por arranjar uma que pudéssemos usar = D

We visited a total of 4 waterfalls that day: Laoutel Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Wa-Kee-Nah Falls, and Multnomah Falls. Each more awe inspiring than the last. There were several others too, we just ran out of day...
Nos Visitamos quatro cachoeiras nesse dia: Laoutel Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Wa-Kee-Nah Falls, and Multnomah Falls. Cada uma mais linda que a outra. Tinha muitas outras mais também, mas no final o dia foi pouco=D
The last of the falls we got to visit was Multnomah Falls. According to my good friend wikipedia, Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in the state of Oregon with a 620 ft drop. I think the best word I can find to describe this view is MAJESTIC.
A última das quedas que visitamos foi Multnomah Falls. De acordo com o minha boa amiga wikipedia, Multnomah Falls é a cachoeira mais alta no estado de Oregon com uma queda de quase 190 metros. Acho que a melhor palavra que encontrei para descrever esta visão é MAGNIFICO
The picture above was taken by one of the Heisers and, if you look very carefully, you will note that the little person wearing a red shirt and with open arms close to the right end of the bridge is actually me =D Marlon and the kiddos are standing there too. The bridge is actually called Benson Bridge and it is a short hike up from the viewing spot.
A foto acima foi tirada por um dos Heisers e, se você olhar com muito cuidado, você vai notar que aquela pessoa bem pequenininha vestida de camisa vermelha e com os braços abertos do lado direito da ponte sou eu =D Marlon e os pequenos estão la também. A ponte é chamada Benson Bridge e e uma curta caminhada do local de visualização.
Once we reached the bridge, the hubby and I decided we were feeling adventurous and continued the 1.5 mile hike to the very top of the falls, kids and all. Did I mention it was about 700 ft elevation?!!

Uma vez que chegamos à ponte, nos decidimos continuar a caminhada de 2,4 km para o topo das quedas, com as crianças e tudo. Eu mencionei que eram mais de 200 metros de elevação? !!
As imagens dessa parte da viagem (abaixo) são na sua maioria do celular do marido.
I won't lie, it was not an easy hike with the two kids but it sure was awesome. The little guy climbed about 80 percent of the way by himself and the rest on my back while Z2 enjoyed a nice nap in the carrier on daddy's back most of the way up. Once we were close to the look out point over the falls we were rewarded with amazing views such as the one above.
Eu não vou mentir, não foi uma caminhada fácil com as crianças, mas com certeza foi incrível. Z1 subiu cerca de 80 por cento do caminho por si mesmo e o resto nas minhas costas enquanto Z2, tirou um bom cochilo na mochila nas costas do papai a maior parte da subida. Uma vez que estávamos perto do ponto de observação acima das quedas nos fomos recompensados com vistas incríveis, como esta acima.
At the lookout spot, Z1 was just flabbergasted. He just stood there on the very edge for the longest time taking it all in.
Quando chegamos ao ponto de observação, Z1 ficou boquiaberto. Ele ficou em pe na pontinha um bom tempo admirado.

I, on the other hand, had a hard time standing close to the edge without my legs feeling all wobbly. It is not that I am afraid of heights, it is just a very long way down! (for a better idea, see video below) So, for a while, I just sat there and took in the view, cradling a sleepy little girl and breathing in the fresh air.
Eu, por outro lado, tive um pouco de dificuldade de ficar em pé perto da borda sem minhas pernas ficaram bambas. Não é que eu tenha medo de alturas, é apenas um caminho muito longo ate chegar la em baixo! (para uma idéia melhor, veja o vídeo abaixo) Então, por um tempo, eu sentei lá e fiquei admirando a vista maravilhosa, embalando uma menininha sonolenta e respirando o ar fresco.
After resting our legs a bit, we started on our way down making a quick stop to find a geocache =D
Depois de descansar as pernas um pouco, começamos a descida depois de uma curta parada para encontrar um geocache =D
In the end, it took us about 2 hours to hike to the lookout and back. It was definitely a great adventure for us.
Ao final, levamos por volta de 2 horas para fazer a caminhada de ida e volta. Foi realmente uma grande aventura para nos.
When we were about to drive back, we just had to stop for some pictures at this tunnel on the rock near Oneonta Falls.
Quando estávamos dirigindo de volta, fizemos uma curta parada para tirar algumas fotos neste túnel na rocha perto das quedas de Oneonta.
To think that this was just very few of the many other beautiful falls, views, and hikes in that area... I guess we will just have to go back there for more =D
So de pensar que essas foram poucas das muitas outras lindas cachoeiras, vistas, e trilhas nessa area... Pelo jeito agente vai ter que voltar logo pra ver mais =D
