Mommy of 2 month 4: The Plot Thickens //Mamae de 2 mes 4: e o Enredo se Complica

This time, as I stare into the blank computer screen I am having a hard time finding words to start. It might be because the last 4-5 nights have been a complicated blur with a very uncomfortable teething little girl who is not sleeping very well. It may be because of the thirty other things weighing on my mind right now. Regardless, I am still glad to be able to take a moment to stop, sit, and reflect on the events of the last month.

Hoje, olhando para a tela do computador em branco eu estou tendo dificuldade em encontrar palavras para começar. Talvez seja porque as últimas 4-5 noites foram complicadas com uma menininha com dentinhos nascendo e desconfortável o bastante  para não conseguir dormir muito bem. Pode ser por causa das trinta outras coisas pesando em minha mente agora. Independentemente disso, eu ainda estou feliz por ser capaz de ter um momento para parar, sentar e refletir sobre os acontecimentos do mês passado.

Let's start with the big guy...

Zuri, the explorer, continues to grow happy and healthy. He absolutely loves being outside playing with dirt and rocks. The other day he was having a blast throwing dirt on top of his head (ai me!). When we take him to the park he spends a lot more time scooping up pebbles than he does playing on the playground structures.  He also loves to hang, from EVERYTHING! The dining room table, the play pen, the bathroom drawer...

Zuri, o explorador, continua a crescer saudável e feliz. Ele adora estar la fora brincando com terra e pedrinhas. No outro dia ele estava fazendo festa jogando terra em cima de sua cabeça (ai de mim!). Quando o levamos ao parque, ele passa muito mais tempo pegando pedrinhas do que brincando no parquinho. Ele também gosta de pendurar, de tudo! A mesa da sala de jantar, a gaveta do banheiro ...

He is a cheerful little guy who always has a song in his lips. Whether it is a song we usually sing for worship, something we were listening to in the car, something he learned in Sabbath School, Little Gym, or discovery club, he is singing something. He has become very specific about what he wants to sing for worship as well. I keep trying to record him singing but, every time I try, he refuses to do it :(

Ele é um menino alegre que sempre tem uma canção em seus lábios. Seja uma musica que geralmente cantamos para o culto, algo que estava ouvindo no carro, algo que ele aprendeu na Escola Sabatina, Little Gym, ou clube de Aventureiros, ele sempre está cantando algo. Ele também tornou-se bem específico sobre o que ele quer cantar para o culto . Eu continuo tentando gravar ele cantando, mas, toda vez que tento, ele se recusa a fazê-lo: (

His ability to structure sentences and his vocabulary are improving by leaps and bounds. His current favorite words, besides his very own "Dicudeh", are "la em cima" ("on top" or "above" in Portuguese). Any time you ask him where something is that is most likely the response you will get. I guess when you are that small most things indeed are "above."

Sua capacidade de estruturar frases e seu vocabulário estão melhorando cada dia mais. Suas atuais palavras favoritas, além de sua própria "Dicudeh", são "la em cima." Toda vez que você pergunta pra ele onde é que algo esta e muito provavel que esta vai ser sua resposta. Eu acho que quando você é pequeno assim, a maioria das coisas realmente estao "la em cima."

When he was 5 months old, his auntie, Paula Perestrelo, gave him a magnetic board with colorful letters. As he grew he began to enjoy putting the letters on and taking them off of the board. When my mother-in-law was here a few months ago for Zarah's birth, she started telling him about a few letters, mainly "Z" for Zuriel. Soon after she left, we noticed that he could recognize and pick out the Z from the board, so we started telling him about more letters. Now he knows "M" for mommy, "V" for vovo (Grandma), "B" for ball, "A" for agua (water), "U" for uva (grapes), and "P" for papai (daddy). The part that amazed me the most is that recently he started picking out those letters in different places like books, magazines, and signs. He also likes to count to 5, although he usually skips the number 4. He counts before he jumps and he can tell you if there are two or three people in a picture. I guess we will continue telling him about letters and numbers =D.

Quando ele tinha 5 meses de idade a tia, Paula Perestrelo, deu-lhe um quadro magnético com letras coloridas. Quando ele cresceu, começou a brincar de tirar colocar as letrinhas no quadro. Quando a minha sogra estava aqui há alguns meses atras para o nascimento de Zarah, ela começou a ensinar-lhe sobre algumas letras, principalmente, "Z" de Zuriel. Logo depois que ela foi embora, percebemos que ele reconhecia o Z do quadro, de modo que começamos a ensinar mais letras. Agora ele sabe o "M" de mamãe, "V" de vovó, "B" de bola, "A" de água, "U" de uva, e "P" de papai. A parte que me espantou mais é que recentemente ele começou a reconhecer essas letras em lugares diferentes, como livros, revistas, e placas. Ele também gosta de contar até cinco, embora ele geralmente ignora o número 4. Ele conta antes de pular e sabe dizer se há duas ou três pessoas em uma foto. Acho que vamos continuar ensinando sobre letras e números = D.


Now the princess...

As I mentioned above, our joyful little bundle is teething. Her first tooth came out 2-3 weeks ago and its neighbor is breaking through the gums as I write. She has been very uncomfortable and sleeping has become a commodity for the two of us. She spends a lot of time with her hands in her mouth and scratching her little face. She also had her 4-month vaccines a few days ago accompanied by her first fever. Poor baby! Still, she is sweet as ever. Even going through these painful experiences she still loves to brighten our days with her huge smiles and sweet giggles.

Como eu mencionei acima, o nosso pacotinho de alegria esta ganhando uns dentinhos. Seu primeiro dente saiu 2-3 semanas atras e seu vizinho está rompendo a gengiva enquanto escrevo. Ela tem estado muito desconfortável e dormir tornou-se um luxo para nós duas. Ela passa a maior parte do tempo com as mãos na boca e coçando o rostinho. Ela também tomou suas vacinas de 4 meses há alguns dias que causaram sua primeira febre. Coitadinha! Ainda assim, ela é um docinho como sempre. Mesmo passando por essas experiências dolorosas ela ainda gosta de iluminar nossos dias com seus enormes sorrisos e gargalhadas.

She is a growing girl, weighing over 15 lb and measuring around 25 in. She loves to reach out and grab her toys and bib, or my clothes and hair. She is making quite the effort to roll and has done it twice on her own. She is learning to lift her legs now, and I imagine she will soon find her feet. And here is where the plot thickens...

Ela é uma menina em crescimento, pesando mais de 7 kg e medindo cerca de 63 cm. Ela gosta de pegar seus brinquedos e babadores, ou minhas roupas e cabelo. Ela está fazendo muito esforço para rolar econseguiu duas vezes por conta própria. Ela está aprendendo a levantar as perninhas para o ar agora, e eu imagino que logo logo ela vai descobrir seus pés. E aqui é onde a coisa se complica ...

It has been noted by the pediatrician (and a couple of other specialists she was referred to recently) that she has increased muscle tone and sustained reflexes throughout her body. It all seems to point to neurological issue and the doctors agree she should have an MRI. Although an MRI is considered a safe procedure, the sedation required has its risks. This has been a difficult issue for me to deal with over the past few days not to mention emotionally taxing. Add that to the lack of sleep and you have all the ingredients to a hot mess. As of right now, we are waiting for a date on the MRI. Please please please keep our family, and specially our little one in your prayers. We are counting on your prayers!

Foi observado pelo pediatra (e dois outros especialistas aos quais ela foi encaminhada recentemente) que ela tem o tônus ​​muscular elevado. Tudo indica que seja uma questão neurológica e os médicos concordam que ela deve fazer uma ressonância magnética. Apesar de uma ressonância magnética ser considerada um procedimento seguro, a sedação necessária tem seus riscos. Esta tem sido uma questão difícil de lidar ao longo dos últimos dias, tanto mentalmente quanto emocionalmente. Acrescentando isso a falta de sono e as coisas ficam ainda mais complicadas.
